Disaster Response

TROPICAL STORM IDA RESPONSE, 2021

SILTRO member organizations are leading volunteer clean up efforts in response to flooding from Tropical Storm Ida. Grants have been provided to non-profit rebuild groups to purchase necessary cleaning supplies. Emergency cash grants have been distributed to households with immediate needs. Project Hope crisis counselors are canvassing impacted neighborhoods to provide emotional support and to make referrals to our network of non-profit providers.

COVID-19 RESPONSE, 2020

The Staten Island Long Term Recovery Organization activated to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. We have worked in collaboration with NYCVOAD to complete a city-wide unmet needs assessment, inviting non-profits, grassroots groups, and houses of worship in each borough to report on the predominant needs of their community members. This data was shared with our government partners and elected officials to inform long-term recovery planning. The SILTRO distributed more than $600,000 in emergency cash grants to Staten Island households with emergency needs resulting from a loss of income to COVID-19. We have hosted dozens of vaccine pop-ups, helping thousands of Staten Islanders to be fully vaccinated. SILTRO member organizations continue to help Staten Islanders apply for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and Excluded Workers Fund, and to connect with Project Hope crissic counselors for emotional support.
